Joy Harris, a native of northeastern Pennsylvania, made her way to Philadelphia to attend Temple University and earned a B.A. in Communications. This small-town girl quickly became a city girl and immediately fell in love with everything Philadelphia had to offer.
While attending Temple, Joy took her first American Sign Language class and soon knew this would be her calling. After extensive training, Joy then pursued a career and became an American Sign Language Interpreter.
For the past 20 years, Joy has worked as a freelance interpreter providing services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community in the tri-state region. She achieved three national certifications, including a legal specialist which qualified her to work in any legal setting including local, state and federal courts. Her extensive experience also includes working in medical settings, educational programs, tech companies, multi-national corporations, and government agencies.
Joy has regularly worked in a lengthy list of high-profile events including the Democratic National Convention, Philadelphia’s Welcome America festivities, the annual City Hall tree lighting, Philadelphia City Council, elected-official inaugurations, Phillies and Eagles games, corporate conferences, as well as nationally broadcast press conferences. She has interpreted regularly for President Joe Biden, President Barack Obama, President Bill Clinton, Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, Mayor Jim Kenney, Mayor Michael Nutter, and Senator Bob Casey, to just name a few.
Joy currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Deaf-Hearing Communication Centre (DHCC), a Swarthmore-based non-profit organization whose mission is to advocate for equal communication access, educational services, cultural awareness and economic development to the Deaf and DeafBlind and hearing populations.
While Joy remains committed to serving the Deaf community, her passion for meeting new people, love for the city, and extensive network of contacts makes her an ideal fit for the real-estate industry. After years of focusing on bridging the gap between the hearing and Deaf communities, Joy has the inherent skillset and experience to facilitate a smooth and easy real estate transaction between all parties involved.
In her free time, Joy enjoys playing tennis, watching the Phillies, traveling and spending time at the beach with her husband Michael and cocker spaniel, Miso.
